Elderly Blind Services

This program provides services to severely visually impaired and blind individuals.  The service area covered includes Alexander, Pulaski, Massac, and Union counties.  Services include but are not limited to, the following:  assessment of activities of daily living; demos and training in the use of low vision aids and assistive devices; referral for low vision exams (the program pays for most prescription glasses); training in activities of daily living; Orientation and Mobility evaluation and training (using a white cane); referral for Talking Books services; adjustment counseling/family education; and reading and writing of convenience Braille.

To qualify for the program, an individual must be severely visually impaired or blind, be age 55 or over, and reside within the four-county service area.  If you or someone you know has a visual impairment and would like to apply or request further information, please call the Delta Center at (618)734-2665 and ask for the Older/Elderly Blind Services Coordinator.
